The Golf Union of Wales is delighted to be hosting this most prestigious of championships in 2009. My thanks go to the members of the Conwy (Caernarvonshire) Golf Club and Club Captain Tom Prescott for courtesy of their wonderful golf course. Conwy has a long and proud tradition of hosting top class golf events and I’m sure that the 120 competitors from across the continent will find a challenging yet hugely enjoyable course.
We are also indebted to our partners who are contributing in many ways to the staging of this Championship, not least the R&A and Conwy County Borough Council. Along with event sponsors, the Imperial Hotel, Carlsberg and Titleist their support has enabled the GUW to take this event to a new level, enhancing both the playing and spectator experience.
A very sincere vote of thanks goes to all the staff and volunteers who will make this Championship happen and who make an invaluable contribution to golf in Wales throughout the year.
Finally a very warm welcome to all twenty European nations taking part, let us hope for fine weather with a testing breeze and a week of great golf leaving fond memories.
